When you're at a trade fair, you want to do something fun!

A Creative Giveaway

When you are exhibiting at a trade fair, you want to do something fun! For the Fashion Trademart fair in Utrecht and the Show-Up fair in Vijfhuizen, we came up with a special giveaway.

Of course, we wanted to give visitors something nice to take home — something that truly fits Désjà Vu and tells a story (or carries a message), just like all of our products and designs.

What better opportunity for a creative giveaway!

Coming up with the idea is fun, but the execution is just as important. That’s why we chose a mini message in a special package: the fortune cookie!

What is a Fortune Cookie?

But what exactly is a fortune cookie, and where does it come from? Let’s take a look at a few fun facts.

Did you know that these cookies do not actually originate from China?

A fortune cookie is made from flour, sugar, vanilla, and sesame seed oil. Inside the cookie you will find a small rolled piece of paper containing a fortune or message.

These cookies are often served in Chinese restaurants in the United States, and sometimes in other countries as well.

The exact origin of fortune cookies is not entirely clear. However, one thing is certain: they did not originate in China. Most likely, the cookie was created in the United States. In California, for example, it is believed that fortune cookies were introduced at the beginning of the 20th century.

The History of Fortune Cookies

Did you know that the Japanese once had a cookie very similar to the fortune cookie?

This cookie dates back to the 19th century and was made in Kyoto, Japan. It differed slightly from the fortune cookies we know today. For example, the dough was darker and the ingredients were somewhat different.

This cookie was called Tsujiura Senbei, and it is still sold in certain parts of Japan at the beginning of the new year.

So the fortune cookie was not a Chinese invention after all. In 1989, fortune cookies were introduced in Hong Kong, where they were marketed as “Authentic American Fortune Cookies” by Wonton Food. However, they were not very successful there because the cookie was considered too American.

The Magic of the Giveaway

This little cookie clearly has quite a history.

And now, through a fun Désjà Vu giveaway, we would love to share a little bit of that magic with you. We are curious to see who will find the golden ticket!

So come visit us at the fair and discover what we have prepared for you.

Who knows — you might go home with a special fortune cookie and a unique Désjà Vu surprise!
